Peru exported 1.329 metric tons (MT) feather meal in 2008 to markets in Ecuador, Chile and Vietnam as food for birds and trout , registering revenues of over $ 425.280, today announced the executive director of the Science and Technology of Peru (FINCYT), Alejandro afus.
This feather meal is obtained through the use of the unusable parts of animals, known worldwide as rendering, a process which is subjected to conditions of temperature, time, pressure and size of the task remains for the purpose of producing animal meal.
commented that because this business has good growth prospects in the country, has decided FINCYT support the project "Improvement of the quality of feather meal by enzyme queratinazas processing and evaluation at the bird feeder and trout.
"This project seeks to change the processing system to obtain feathers feather meal and good quality standard," he declared.
regard, the project coordinator, Carlos Gomez, said the price of flour per metric ton of feathers varies as product quality, ranking among the 315 and $ 320.
"The amount of feathers available for the production of flour in Lima amounts to 1.603 MT per month, both obtained from slaughterhouse pens and in markets," he said.
He said currently the availability of feathers in Peru is high because the per capita consumption of chicken reaches 30 kilos.
Among the companies currently involved in this business are Coinsa (40 daily feather TM), Pacific Alternative protein (35 TM), The Agro Business Ferrol (20 tm) and Agro Intiquilla (20 TM).
There are also larger companies that have with its own rendering system, such as poultry San Fernando, Round and Avinka, among others.
