discs and songs of the week are here, including my two favorite albums so far in 2010. Come with me?
Beneath this burning shoreline of CHERRY GHOST (2010) .- dark melodies, a voice low and thick - which might not be as enjoyable at first listen - and moments of deep, dark and even depression are part of this second album of pop / rock baroque. The truth is that I was fascinated with the style, the songs, voice, and that saborcito "vintage" and while not the best album I heard this year, is by far the most caught my attention. Recommended for a rainy afternoon or an evening of wine and good company.
suburbs The Arcade Fire (2010) .- A the expected return of such favorite indie who with his third studio work, arrived simultaneously at the top of listings United States, Britain and Canada, their country of origin. The septet has created such a noise, being compared with the phenomenon of "Nirvana" at the start of the 90s and with this great album are called to carry the flag of the new rock with other groups such as Kings Of Leon, The Killers, Coldplay and Muse. Suburbs The album is a very compact, robust and "round" as an extension of what already offered to Funeral and Neon Bible but in this case with a more polished and better thought out. Outstanding songs like the single "Ready to start", the envelope "Half Light I" rapid "Month of May", the relaxed almost surf "Wasted hours," the Blondie-esque "Sprawl II" and that names the disk, but without shade between 16 - generous, at times when the discs do not usually spend 10 songs - that make this job very well done from start to finish. The Suburbs a great album that stands as my favorite so far this year.
Nightmare AVENGED SEVENFOLD (2010) .- To have reached the market a week before the Arcade Fire album, I meant to this modern metal band to reach the top of Billboard the first time. Composed of 11 songs, this band's fifth work of Huntington Beach, California, takes the left by the self-titled album of 2007 with strong numbers, heavy and yet melodic, thoughtful lyrics and a forced change in the battery, after the death of James "The Rev" Sullivan (his place, both in recording and in the promotional tour has been well filled by Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater). The band's fifth album, presents approaches to Metallica and speed / thrash from the 80s ("Buried Alive" and "Natural Born Killer"), nods to southern rock ("Tonight the world dies") and the not so typical ballad rock ("So far away" "Victim" and "Fiction"), but all with the stamp of Avenged Sevenfold and very credible singer. Is another of my favorite records in 2010, only behind the Arcade Fire above, and while their sound is not suitable for all, with this Nightmare get among the most prominent and recognized in the genre.
The place we ran from of TIRED PONY (2010) .- Despite technological advances, and other social networks is not easy to follow in the footsteps of all favorite artists and Links Partners I imagine that some fans of the Irish Snow Patrol did not know that singer Gary Lightbody formed a supergroup with Peter Buck of REM, Richard Colburn of Belle & Sebastian and Scott McCaughey of The Minus 5. Declared fan of country music, Lightbody pays tribute to this project country / alternative parts is important guy next to names gender as Wilco, Son Volt or the Jayhawks. Its distinctive voice, mixed with some guests such as Tom Smith of Editors or the beautiful actress / singer Zooey Deschanel, not to mention the instruments that separate the country from other genres, such as mandolin and banjo, but could not get away completely from sound "Snow patrol". Fans of the creators of "Chasing cars" - like me - find worth listening to the album, others - as critics - think it's a waste of time. And you?
Save me, San Francisco Train (2009) .- I had it as one of my favorite albums last year and over in 2010, returns from time to time chasing . From the opening track and title track to the delicate "Merry me" that puts the end point of a set is very solid line at a high level and puts it - to me - as the best disc Californian band. Save me, San Francisco shows great maturity lyrical and rhythmic manner and within well-accomplished pop melodies, sound returns to folk / roots of his early records, while experimenting with instruments like the ukulele that became clear brand of "Hey, soul sister", the successful first single that led to the now trio at other levels of popularity (it is the fourteenth most downloaded track history, surpassing the four million legal downloads). Lyrics Pat Monahan are getting better: smart, fine, subtle and even ironic and reflect in great songs like "You already know" - my favorite, the most rocking disc - "If it's love" - \u200b\u200bcurrent single - "Breakfast in bed" - elegant and seductive, with a nod to the soul - "I got you" - with close to reggae - and the gentle "Parachute", "This Is not Goodbye" and "Merry me." "Hey, soul sister" - despite the time and exposure - a hymn that is still not tired and this is an album to listen again and again and again and again ...
Blakroc BLACK KEYS (2009) .- As if you have time, both of The Black Keys, released late last year an album that mixes his sound almost unmistakable rapping and musicians of color phrases such as the late Ol 'Dirty Bastard, Raekwon, Rza, Mos Def, Ludacris , Nicole Wray and Q-Tip and others. Having an impact on Billboard's rap charts, is an interesting collaboration worth listening to, especially if you're in the discovery stage of this great American duo.
And here's singles ...
"Little Lion Man" MUMFORD & SONS .- A song that at first I did not like but that slowly grew on me. His wave folk, it reminds me of bands like Blues Traveler and Sister Hazel and after having put on my radio show (can not remember if the sector "indie" or "euro") I could not out of my head for days , "I really fucked it up this time, my dear Did not I, Did I my" ... "My best theory" JIMMY EAT WORLD .- The quartet which provided that unforgettable "The middle" back in 2002, returns with a subject not as contagious or memorable, but just as fun and direct. Fresco, agile and strong, bearing the seal pop punk band and I think it will be successful in alternative stations. Will be expected to bring Invented his departure on 28 September. "Animal" NEON TREES .- Three minutes nailed pure addiction, with a theme contagious, dance, those who stay in your head for days or weeks. Little something of indie, a bit of new wave, small doses of melodic punk, retro drops and an undeniable touch of pop - and a palm out there - make this a hit season and became the favorite in the American summer. Will the "Animal" within us? Http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chJgaksG4sg
"Black Rain" by Soundgarden .- I believe there is much to say about an issue originally recorded almost 20 years ago, but only now released. While it is notable for having re-recorded the vocals for his departure, this song from the sessions for "Badmotorfinger" sounds pretty old and I imagine it would have been a success receiving editing / promoting at the time. U.S. rock stations were in a good way to the track - of course means the excitement of receiving material from a separate band two decades ago - but not enter at all among my favorites by any means. There is still doubt whether the return of Soundgarden recorded new material, but could ensure that it will not continue the line ... Http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-DwEYuKRP4
